The EPE foam core provides a higher R-value, delivering a higher level of fire protection (Class A, Class 1 fire rating).
Triplex® has become the number one code-compliant alternative to foam board, spray foam, and Insul-Barrier in crawlspaces for a majority of contractors due to efficiency and cost alone. You read that correctly, Triplex® has a proven track record of passing building code inspections time after time.
As you may already know, some states require a specific R-value when insulating crawlspace masonry walls, while many states and municipalities don’t require a specific R-value. Triplex® provides a minimum R-10 value when including a 1” air space on one or both sides of the product. Triplex® is a superior vapor and moisture barrier as well (when installed with the PolyWhite side applied directly to masonry walls)!
The outer layers of the material feature a PolyWhite layer on one side and a metalized reflective foil on the other, allowing flexibility with installation options. If you desire to minimize heat transfer during winter months to help protect against frozen pipes, install the product with the foil side interior-facing and visible from within the crawlspace. If you desire a different aesthetic, install PolyWhite side interior-facing and visible from within the crawlspace. (Please note installing the PolyWhite side facing interior to the crawlspace requires a minimum 1″ air gap to achieve R-10; installing the metalized foil side facing interior to the crawlspace does not require an air gap to achieve R-10.)
